I don’t suppose I would have ever developed an interest in card tricks if I had not been a keen card player first. Playing card games is a great way to pass time with family or friends. It can be as light-hearted or as serious as you want it to be and there seems to be a card game for every taste and every occasion.

What I find intruiging is just how many different types of card game there are … here are just a few:

• Matching games
• Trick taking games (such as Skat)
• Shedding games
• Accumulating games
• Fishing games
• Solitaire games
• Drinking card games
• Gambling card games such as poker
